Opening the Door

Rocko door.PNGEarlier this month Steve, my boyfriend, said to me that his favorite part about walking our dog Rocko is the moment he opens the door. I remembered how confused I was by this statement? Especially because prior to opening the door  we pick up his leash which causes him to jump around and do a little dance showing off his excitement. It is quite adorable and out of character for our old, sleepy, and sometimes grumpy dog.

Why is opening the door his favorite part? When he opens the door and Rocko runs out, he has noticed the awe in Rocko’s face as he surveys the area eager to find out what will be waiting outside for him. I was in awe of Steve’s observation, because as I walked Rocko that day and I opened the door, I saw it. The wonder and eagerness to see what would be outside.

Rocko Snow.PNGThis morning as we opened the door to take Rocko on his morning walk and 3 inches of snow covered the ground he was extra excited by what he saw. Opening the door may now be one of my favorite parts of our walks as well.

  1. Oh I adore this. It’s a whole new world in Rocko’s eyes each time you open the door. He’s such a cutie by the way. Enjoy the walks through his eyes – you’ll see.

  2. First, your dog’s name, Rocko, one of the best dog names I’ve heard in a long time! I love it!

I love the observation your boyfriend made about Rocko, “the awe in Rocko’s face as he surveys the area eager to find out what will be waiting outside for him.” Such a descriptive way to describe what’s going in his mind!

You should let Rocko “write” a blog for you to see what he’s noticing! That would be a lot of fun! 🙂

Thanks for sharing Rocko and your slice with us!

  3. Oh, I love this. Maybe Steve should start Slicing since he’s so observant of the little moments in life. 🙂

I like that now that he pointed it out, you notice it, too.

    P.S. Love the picture!
