After leaving work I hopped in my car and quickly called my best friend, Sarah. We have been friends since high school but our adult lives have taken us to different locations. She lives in Philadelphia while I am in Chicago. Unfortunately we have fallen into the trap of adulthood. We are always so busy we never get a chance to pick up the phone and have a conversation. Instead we glance at each other’s social media pages to like and comment so that we are still somewhat versed in one and other’s happenings. In order to get a phone call to work we have to text to find a time that will work and then pencil our friendship into our schedule.
Today, after work was our penciled in phone call and it was LONG OVERDUE. We caught up on the past few months chatting about our love lives, jobs, family, and random news we knew only the other person would understand. As I hung up the phone a combination of happiness and longing rushed over me, wishing that we lived near each other again. I made a mental note, Pencil Sarah in regularly.

That’s so great that you got to have such a nice conversation with her. I have a best friend from high school and while she lives somewhat close by, I still don’t get to see or talk to her as much as I would like. But like you, I always feel refreshed and happy after I do.
