SOUL

Today was emotionally and mentally draining. But, it did not stop me. It almost stopped me, but it did not. I went to cycle at 6pm after another long day of work.

As I slipped my shoes off of my tired feet and into my cycling shoes I kept telling myself, “You can do this; Find energy.”

Bam! It hit me. The pulsating loud music of Missy Elliot in a dark, electric room alive with energy. As I clipped my shoes in and started pushing my legs and moving the peddles I slowly let the day roll away. I was able to breathe a little slower, a little deeper. I started to laugh at the music and pedal along to the beat.

The instructor began telling us that they have adopted a word of the month, to inspire and help focus our practice. The word is SOUL. She said soul may mean something different to each of us. “What does it mean to you?”, she asked. “What does it mean for your practice and intention today?”

Today was emotionally and mentally draining. But, it did not stop me. Why? Because I listened to myself, I dug dip down into my soul and did what was best for me. I know that doing what is best for my soul is always a good idea and always worth doing.

  1. These are really deep lines to ponder: What does soul mean to you? and what does it mean for your practice and intention today? Excellent brain exercise from your instructor. Kudos to you for pressing on!

  2. I enjoy the repetition between the beginning and end of your post: Today was emotionally and mentally draining. But, it did not stop me. At the beginning, it sounds defeated, deflated, but the details that build to the end make the second version ring with triumph. Way to go!

  3. Love how the ending mirrored the beginning!

That’s such a powerful word, isn’t it? I bet you’ll think of it often when you have to dig deep to do something.

Great Slice – and hope tomorrow is a better day!
